Removing a 356 Engine
I've found a technique I like that Minimizes the Maximum height a
356/912 must be raised to drop the engine.
- After disconnecting all the Aforemention stuff Linus mentioned, and the
Tach Cable on Mech Tach cars, simply slide a Floor Jack under the engine
with a piece of wood or carpet to protect the drain plate parts.
- Jack the engine up ever so slightly and pull back on the Muffler. Engine
should come out and off the main shaft.
- Lower the engine down onto the Innovative Solid Cellulous Lowering
System of 2 x 4's or 4 x 4's.
- Remove Jack.
- With a long 2 x 4, play Archemedes and lift one side of the engine up as
you (or someone else) removes a
2 X 4. Repeat until the engine is on the ground. (Or on a piece of
cardboard that you thoughtfully placed on the ground before you slid the
Jack in.)
- With the Floor Jack with some wood on the jack, Jack up the SIDE of the
car at the location where the Trailing Arms meet the Torsion Tube.
- Pull engine out from the side.
- Lower car fully to ground on its wheels.
Installation is the reverse of the procedure.
KEEP THE 356 FAITH!!!
