Well
Here's my car a 1951 Reutter Coupe #10543. As you can see it is
in nearly showroom "new" condition. I know, I know, a
lot of you probably are shaking your
heads. I realize it still needs a little detailing and some
small parts to be complete (engine, brakes, interior,
sheet-metal, paint).
The build date of the car is April 12, 1951. It was originally
Adia Blue (very pretty color) with a gray cloth interior,
gray-blue headliner and blue carpets.
I have the original motor which will go back in the car (#10108)
it is an aluminum case 1100cc 2-piece case motor with all the go
fast goodies that early 1951 had to offer. Unfortunately the
"crashbox" transaxle went away to a farm in upstate
New York...
There is a 519 (synchro) transaxle in its place and It will most
likely stay there. The brakes are the original early 9" VW
iron drums which should add some excitement to my life should I
keep them on the car. Unfortunately the car has "super
wide" 3.25" x 16"
wheels. It should have the heavier and narrower 3.0" x
16" wheels. I'll have to work on that...
Overall the car is quite solid. The nose was replaced in the
good old days. The hood is from a four digit (serial no.) car. I
have all the small parts now, including dash stuff, motor stuff
and other stuff. I will be working (feverishly) over the next
year to get the car water tight and drivable. I will accomplish
this goal even if it kills me.
Regards, Peter Zwinakis
