This special car spent its life from 59 to
early 80's in Auckland, New Zealand. The owner registry from New
Zealand shows 4 owners; one guy, the original owner twice. He
now lives in the States. When I purchased the car in 1984 it had
60,000 KM on the odometer, and I paid $18,000 for it. The seller
agreed to take payments over a 6 month period. The car was in
its original condition as delivered from the factory. Aluminum
panels, GT Seats, 692/3 motor with the Webers, all 5 alloy
wheels, and GT tank. The car was completely restored by the
party I sold it to. I stored the car for many years on a small
island in Puget Sound in an old garage. Someone only had to pry
the lock off the old weathered cedar doors and there it was.
This is a car I was sorry to sell, and is the only Carrera that
I have purchased that I have sold. The reason I sold it is
because I drive all my cars and being RHD, I was sure to screw
things up given my coordination skills. This was and is one of
the rarest cars from this time period and the current owner
should be most proud to have such a rare piece. When I sold the
car it went to Warren Eads, Dean Watts of Reno, then to Japan
(now part of a private collection).
