My name is Tony Scalies and I have had my 356 for a couple of years. After searching for a long time for a nice Roadster that fit my budget, I finally found my baby. After seeing an ad in the registry magazine, I contacted the seller. I called about 3 times but I never was able to get the owner on the phone. He finally called me back to tell me that he had traded in the car for another vintage collector car (one with a prancing horse badge). I begged him for as much info about the car as he could give me and then I contacted the classic car dealer. My wife and I took the 200 mile drive to see the car the next day and it was love at first sight. My 356 is a 1961 Roadster. Car # 89062 engine # 604799 and color # 6007 (heron
grey) with a dark blue interior.
While the car had been restored in the early 80's, it still looked pretty good. Mechanically however, it was a different story. The mechanicals of the car were in pretty bad shape. We had lousy compression, oil leaks, and all of the rubber parts of the car were dried out from sitting for so long. I began to get the car up to mechanical speed. With the help of Bruce Baker Enterprises in Collegeville, PA we set out to make the car right. After some time we managed to completely rebuild the engine and trans as well as the brakes. Many registry vendors were a great help with our efforts. I would like to thank Vic
Skirmants, Competition Engineering, Duane Spencer, Brad Ripley, Parker-Tyler, Tony
Eugenio, John Burgess, Stoddard and many others. Thanks to all of the help I received, I have driven from PA to South Carolina
(ECH), Tampa (Porsche Parade), and Asheville (ECH) in the past year. I have totaled over 8000 miles since 3/2002. I love this car! I find it amazing how an hour ride after a long day at work can be a surreal experience.

As
a 36 year old in a club the has many seasoned knowledgeable
members, I have been welcomed by many veterans of the club at
locals events and at Charleston, Tampa, and Asheville. I urge the
younger members to get involved and not to be afraid of the
"dumb" questions. The Asheville holiday was fantastic.
The Keyser's deserve a magnitude of credit for a flawless event.
I can't wait until Williamsburg.
I have included many pictures of my car for other members to
enjoy.
Thanks,
Tony and Sharon Scalies
