The car is a B-T6, built in September, 1962, which makes it, I'm
told, a 1963 car. In 1978, I had been looking for a 356 for
about a year, when I was driving on El Camino Real in Palo Alto,
California and saw this car sitting in a vacant lot with a "For
Sale" sign in the window. It was being offered, no kidding, by a
"little old lady schoolteacher" who was afraid she couldn't
afford to continue to maintain the car properly. She drove it
approximately ninety miles a day to and from her teaching job.
After taking it to the local Porsche dealer for an inspection, I
bought it - for more than what it cost new, but a whole lot less
than what comparable cars go for these days.
The first picture was one of the color pictures in the first
of the 356 Calendars. It was taken at a parking area near the
Rogue River Gorge in Central Oregon on one of many trips my wife
and I took in the car.
The second picture was taken near the entrance to the Ancient
Bristlecone Pine forest at the top of the White Mountains near
the California/Nevada border. In the background, is the city of
Bishop, California.
The last picture was taken much closer to home. The concrete
ship, SS Palo Alto (funny how that name comes up again) is
aground at Seacliff State Beach, Aptos, California.
