This fine 356A was found in the Texas hill country in late 2003.
It is a 1958 356A Cabriolet with a '62 1600S engine.
Someone had started the restoration at some point. It was then
sold to another who had started to part it out and sell parts on
eBay. Best I can tell from my research this car originally lived
in Florida (I have the rust to prove it).
We are currently restoring the car to a daily driver condition.
So far we have replaced all of the major structural steel
components including floor pans, inner/outer longitudinals,
bulkhead, gas tank and batter box floors, closing panels,
rockers, and about 4 square feet worth of patches. Door bottoms
as well as the windshield cowl have also been repaired.
The engine is not original but has been rebuilt as a 1600S as
the car was originally shipped. The transmission has been
rebuilt to period correct standards. A new wiring harness has
been installed as well as new rubber seals and bushings
throughout.
A journal of the restoration and additional photos can be found
at
www.bubba-dog.com . Look for #150956 on the roads of Texas
some time in the future. |
