1958 Sunroof Coupe

Charlie Lecach

Here's my Sunroof Coupe which has been travelling quite a bit since it left the Porsche Factory early in 1958. It was imported to USA by Max Hoffmann and sold on March 6th 1958 to a gentleman from Salt Lake City, Utah. All I know at the present time is that his first name was probably Gary. Then he sold it in 1985 to George M. Haley, a lawyer from SLC. Mister Haley sold it to someone located in Germany in 1997 (Roberto Saccet), as I have some exportation paperwork with his name from the German Customs of  remerhaven. It seems like this man imported it back to Europe for an Italian lady
called Paola Ferrario from Verona. A restoration was then started in Italy, before the coupe went back to Germany to get the finishing touches by PS Automobile in a northern city called Geseke. They sold it to Mister Carsten Grimm, another lawyer, in 2001. He enjoyed this ground up restored car for a few years before selling it to me in September 2005. I had it delivered from Northern Germany to Southern France, where I hope it will stay for as many years as possible ! While in Salt Lake City, this Porsche had been
painted black, but as the Kardex stated it had a 5706 color initially, it was painted silver metallic when it was restored. The only option mentioned on the Kardex is the Sunroof. Anyhow, PS Automobile added a Nardi wooden steering wheel and some Speedster bucket seats. I recently bought the luggage rack on eBay Germany, but won't use it all of the time because it spoils the lines of the body in my opinion. The hardest part was to get
an authentic old French (black) rear license plate on which I could have today's registration number stamped. I finally found what seemed to be the last one in the country in an old auto repairshop. They're not really legal here any longer, but it looks much nicer than with the European standardized plates ! I'd be glad to hear about any 356 registry members travelling to the French Riviera, or even living in the area!
