1956 Coupe

Ray Fausel

I bought this 1956 coupe in 1960 from one of my students at Cal State LA University where I have taught automotive technology until I retired several years ago. It has always been a daily driver with just over 520,000 miles on it. Over 360,000 miles just between home and the university. From the mid 60,s till 80,s I was vice chairman of the tech committee for USAC at the Indy 500 and I'd drive the Porsche back for the month of May. Foreign cars weren't very popular in the Midwest in the early 60's .I'd get some remarks such as oh! you got one of those "sporty cars" or isn't that one of those streamlined Volkswagens? Service station attendants would ask where's the engine or can I check the oil and water to which I'd reply" the oils ok but you'd better check the water"! I just installed one of the Maestros industrial engines and now need to rebuild my 519 transmission or preferably update to a 741. The only parts that have been replaced in the transmission is the mainshaft bearing { 3 times}
