My 1964 C Porsche coupe, VIN# 217486 (red, shown below), I purchased on Valentines Day of 1968, in Van Nuys, CA. I purchased it from the original owner. It has never sustained collision damage or rust. Was originally purchased at Downtown Porsche in Los Angeles, CA.
The car was originally signal red, but my restoration of 1973 – 74, I changed the color to a red, similar to ruby red and now is a Ditzler Fleet color. The interior was done by Denny Nish in Van Nuys , CA. The engine was rebuilt by NARW (North American Racing Werks) in Reseda, CA. It was built to 1750cc. With Zenith carburetors, it runs smooth and strong.
The engine sheet medal, air-filter canisters, oil-filter canister and oil filler canister were painted in two shades of silver/gray and a few of the engine accessories were chromed. It is not concour, but its appearance is very elegant in looks.
When I purchased the car, it came with a beautiful Nardi steering wheel. I've recently had this Nardi appraised at $2,500 to $3,000. I originally purchased this car for $3,200. Now it appears that I almost got the car for free.
My 1964 SC Porsche coupe, VIN# 130210 (grey, 6401, shown above), I purchased in 1979 in Lancaster, CA for $10,000. I also purchased it from the original owner. It also has never sustained collision damage or rust. The original owner, ordered and picked this car up in Stuttgart, Germany and drove it there for a month before shipping it to the states. What is very special about this Porsche, as shown on the original purchase document (see below), is that it came from the factory with black leather interior, 12volt, 70L fuel tank, extended steering wheel column and European heat/exhaust.
It remains in concour condition, and if and when I do a restoration, I plan on keeping it concour. I have given thought about changing the exterior color to Porsche silver metallic (6206) and the interior to red leather. Just a thought.
Both cars lived in Southern California until 1999. Now that I live in Ocala, FL, I house both my cars in a climate control garage.
I love both my cars and feel they are family.
