Here are some pictures of 1954 coupe #51665 showing it right out
of the barn in Kingsville Texas 1977. Sporting one 16" wheel and
turbo trim ring on the left rear, it was a sight to behold.
Inside, all of the carpet was gone but pretty much everything
else was there. Check out that dust on the dash! I held on to
#51665 without doing too much to it until I got through college,
marriage, etc., but in 1995 some buddies said "lets drive to the
West Coast Holiday in Aspen/Crested Butte!". So in 90 days I
stripped it to a bare body shell, painted it, and then
reassembled it using a 912 engine for power. It was a memorable
3000 mile trip with one of the highlights being the coasting
contest down Maroon Bells.
Thanks Joe, Molly, Geoff, Blake and Frank for the support,
prodding, and beer. See you at Boerne in '05!
