1962 Roadsters

John Brooks

I bought the gray one in 1967 in DC, as a teenager, traded in a 59A coupe for it at the local MB dealer. Paid $1500 for it with $500 for my coupe. I am the second owner, original owner got married and the wife could not drive a stick. I pick up the red on in LA in 1972, at that time was only the third one I have ever seen. Thought it would be good to spares, just back from Vietnam with a lot of cash. Both stayed in storage until 1986, I brought them to MD. while I was stationed at PAX .River. Put them both back on the road for a year or so. It was good to drive one to work, then change cars at lunch and drive the test pilots crazy with my color changing car.

They are configured a little differently, but the original owner of the red one bought it new in Germany. Ordered it with the ATE disc brakes. It also has a gas tank with a bottom fuel level sender, small "C" fuel pump, aluminum valve spring retainers bumper mounted lucas driving lights. I took off the bumpers in 1989 to ship them across country and
have never gotten around to putting them back on.

Cheers
John
