FUN FAQ: 356es in the Movies

Credits to: All the folk on the 356Talk line over the years

Q: I know the Porsche 356 has been used in many movies over the years. Which ones, and what actors drove them?

A: Here's one take at an on-going list. (Jump right to the list.) If you know of others not listed here, send them to der webmeister, and we'll ad them to the list.

About this list:

This list is ranked in chronological order. Some details come from the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com). If there are links on the film name, it is a link to IMDB where you can find out more about this movie--but don't expect to find mention of 356es there. The 356 information was gleaned from 356Talk discussions and fans around the world. Only the 356 Registry can bring you the details You Want to Know about 356es in the movies!

Please send in information which will ammend, correct, or remove any of the below. If you see a "?" next to something, we're not sure about it. If you know for a fact, clue us all in. We have not seen all these films, and so there are some guesses here, based on reports. If you can say definitively about something about how much screen time a 356 has in any of these movies, and want to suggest a change in the "rating", please let us know.

For those of you looking to rent a movie with factual 356 Content, consider one of the documentaries following the Hollywood list. Much more 356 time as a percentage of total running time.

Real or Kit?

The ardent viewer may be able to spot that some of these 356es are kits. Many are factory cars. Some Registry members have had their cars used in films. Some 356es are factory cars, replaced by kit cars just before crashes, explosions, etc. This list doesn't draw a distinction between kit cars and Porsches. If it looks like a Speedster, it is a Speedster. Why? Because it's a movie!! It's all pretend!

Seriously, if there's information about particular cars (owners can 'fess up) being used in a movie, we'll link that info in. If there' s a story to tell, tell it, and we'll make up a page. Everyone loves a "Hollywood Discovery" story!

Feature Films

Some of the movies in the below list have been "spotted" with a 356 in partial display for only a couple seconds (e.g., Gone in 60 Seconds, Willy Wonka). Others have considerably more. The labels are based on reports, we're open to ammendments.

P=Prominently featured, central to character or plot
S=In a Scene or three, supporting character
W=Walk-on, just passing through but not background
B=Background, watch closely
